#MEET Golden Flame Leisure Park
This is a short interview we conducted with Farai Robert Madzuramende, the founder of “Golden Flame Leisure Park”. If you like the concept of this idea and would like to vote for it, click HERE.
- What is your background? (Nationality, age, education, field of work). Please tell us your full name and the name of your project.
My name is Farai Robert Madzuramende, 34 years of age. Golden Flame Leisure Park is the name of my project. I was born in Harare Zimbabwe, I grew up in a township in Harare where I did my primary and secondary education. I then moved to Bulawayo upon completion of my high school to further pursue my tertiary studies. I studied Marketing Management at Bulawayo Polytechnic College. I worked with various youth organizations on several issues of HIV/AIDS, Governance, Gender mainstreaming, Policy and entrepreneurship. I was part of the founding members of a youth Organization called Youthood Southern Africa Initiatives that looked broadly on addressing issues that affect young peoples from being active participants of economic activities. We successfully participated in a number of national projects like the crafting of the National Youth Policy as a board member. As I was still active in the civic sector I realized the need to further my studies. I then enrolled for a BSc Psychology with Zimbabwe Open University. This was such a milestone as I had come a long way. Due to our economic meltdown there was so much pressure on donors and other funding partners as such that resulted in a number of our financing partners failing to support most of our mainstream activities. I then left the civic sector for retail where I was employed at Truworths as an Assistant Branch Manager. After 2years of engagement I then left Truworths in search for greener pastures. I then moved to South Africa were am currently based. I work for a Civil Engineering firm called Tarworks Construction as a Marketing and Logistics Officer.
- Describe your idea or project in two sentences.
Golden Flame Leisure Park is a unique business cluster that consolidates diverse business units within the same vicinity thereby complimenting their operations. All the clusters are interdependent on each other thereby adding value to products and services at different levels within the linkage framework of our operations.
- What are the benefits you take from the Entrepreneurship Campus?
Capacity Building and strategic networks for sustainable linkages.
- What motivates you to be an entrepreneur?
Young people are often perceived as problematic elements rather than economic partners for sustainable development. I am inspired to change the lives of many young people to become economic participants rather than mere observers of developmental processes.
- Imagine you have ‚supreme power’ to create and innovate: how would your world look like? What changes would you like to make in your community and/or in the world? Share your thoughts from a ‚supreme power’ and entrepreneur standpoint.
I want to make this world a better place for all who live within it to be active agents of sustainable economic development through engagement and capacity building. I want to make sure that our millennium developmental goals of providing the basics for our vast majority would be a key factor as a basis for sustainable development. I would identify all the marginalized sectors within a community in terms of their capacity needs then spearhead the implementation of relevant parameters to address their plea.
- What would you say to potential voters who may be reading your interview?
Well please vote for my project, as it is inspired to change the way young people are perceived by our world thereby discovering endless possibilities for sustainable development.
