#MEET Greenceety Biorenewables

My name is Kassim Kamal-deen from Nigeria, I am 23 years old. I hold a bachelor degree in chemical engineering and developed an interest in biofuel production and youth empowerment activities which both spurred my selection for Young African Leaders Initiatives and three research projects on biofuel. The name of my idea is Greenceety Biorenewables.
- Describe your idea or project in two sentences.
Our idea is to set up a batch processing denatured bioethanol micro-distilleries across Nigeria starting with a capacity of 1000 liters/day in Kaduna state using about 75% of locally available materials to construct it. We will use non-food parts as feedstock to produce a clean, safe, more affordable and sustainable denatured alcoholic fuel for cooking in households thereby reducing climate change caused by domestic activities like cooking and perilous health complications caused by fumes inhaled from solid and fossil fuels.
- What are the benefits you take from the Entrepreneurship Campus?
Entrepreneurship Campus is a platform I believe identifies young people with great ideas or projects that will make positive impacts in the world. So far, I had benefited from the courses Entrepreneurship Campus offered which improved my entrepreneurial and leadership skill. Another benefit in Entrepreneurial Campus is that it creates an enabling environment for me with to network with other great and visionary young people especially in the area of environmental sustainability.
- What motivates you to be an entrepreneur?
After the establishment of Sustainable Development Goals, it was highly anticipated that every country would start the planning and execution of policies that will make it successful but instead, there is no significant success particularly in the developing continent like Africa, which have been marred by unnecessary deferment and the usual problems in planning and scaling of tangential priorities. This spurred and motivated my entrepreneurial journey because I dare not be static about the slouchiness of our under-developed governments. We need to empower ourselves and bring a positive impact in our environment by sharing ideas and bringing novel solutions to tackle pressing issues affecting our environment.
- Imagine you have ‚supreme power’ to create and innovate: how would your world look like? What changes would you like to make in your community and/or in the world? Share your thoughts from a ‚supreme power’ and entrepreneur standpoint.
If I have a supreme power, I will make my world greenish and environmentally friendly. People will live healthily and there will be access to basic amenities for their sustainability; children will grow and be taught in a safe environment and I will encourage and empower social entrepreneurship by creating policies that will aid start-ups.
- What would you say to potential voters who may be reading your interview?
Deforestation, desertification, inadequate access to hygienic water due to leakage of petroleum pipelines in rivers and fumes generated during cooking as a result of solid and fossil fuels being used are some of the problems contributing perilously to our environment and climate change. We will appreciate your support for our idea because it looked through research and development in solving these problems by promoting a green and sustainable environment for all especially in Africa and other developing nations.
